The Japan Rail Pass is a rail ticket that gives you the flexibility to explore Japan through unlimited use of the entire Japan Rail network including the world famous bullet trains. You can choose between a package of 7, 14 or 21 consecutive days. The JR rail network is very large and nearly all attractions are accessible by train. 


The Japan Rail Pass includes:

  • Railway 
-JR lines throughout Japan, including Shinkansen “bullet trains” (except for the “NOZOMI” and “MIZUHO” services), limited express trains, express trains and local trains.
-Tokyo Monorail
-Aoimori Railway between Hachinohe and Aomori, Aomori and Noheji, or Hachinohe and Noheji (valid only for use on ordinary trains)
-IR Ishikawa Railway between Kanazawa and Tsubata
-Ainokaze Toyama Railway between Toyama and Takaoka (valid only for use on ordinary trains)
(On Aoimori, IR Ishikawa, and Ainokaze Toyama Railways, valid only for travel extending through the indicated segments without stopover)

  • Buses
Local lines of JR Bus (except for expressway buses and some local services).
JR Bus : JR Hokkaido Bus, JR Bus Tohoku, JR Bus Kanto, JR Tokai Bus, West Japan JR Bus, Chugoku JR Bus, JR Shikoku Bus, JR Kyushu Bus

  • Ferry
Only the JR-WEST Miyajima ferry is covered.
*Hydrofoil ferry service operated by JR-KYUSHU between Hakata and Pusan (Korea) is not covered.


PLEASE NOTE: 
The Japan Rail Pass is a special fare ticket that is available only to travelers visiting Japan from the foreign countries for sightseeing. To be eligible to purchase a Japan Rail Pass you must meet one of the following conditions:
  1. You are a foreign tourist visiting Japan from abroad for sightseeing, under the entry status of "Temporart Visitor". *
  2. You are a Japanese national living in a country other than Japan (having entered the country on a Japanese Passport).
*The Japan Rail Pass is not available to holders of any other entry status or visa type regardless of duration, including Student, Entertainer, Working Holiday or Military. If you do not enter Japan with 'Temporary Visitor' entry status you will not be allowed to use the Japan Rail Pass.


How does it work?
Once you have completed your purchase, you will recieve a voucher which can be exchanged within three months in one of the offices placed in the airports and main railway stations in Japan.
